AI food recognition from a photo
Snap a photo of your meal — AI recognises the food and calculates calories. Your corrections teach the AI.
How it works
- Tap "Add food" and choose the photo option ("Photograph your dish").
- Take a photo or pick one from your library ("Choose from library").
- AI recognises the food, estimates the portion size and calculates calories and macros.
- Review the result, adjust if needed, and save.
Tips for better recognition
- Shoot from above or at a slight angle so the whole dish is visible.
- Make sure the lighting is good — recognition is worse in dark photos.
- If there are several dishes on the plate, AI tries to recognise each one separately.
Common issues
- AI got it wrong? After recognition the app asks "Was this recognised correctly?" — mark it if not, and adjust the name or amount. Your corrections are used to train the AI, so recognition keeps improving.
- Camera access required — if you declined the permission, tap "Open settings" and enable the camera for Avitra.
- Daily AI limit reached — on the free plan the number of AI recognitions per day is limited; see the article "AI usage limits".
- No internet — photo analysis happens on the server, so it will not work offline.
